03/19/2010 - Frankfurt, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Bayern Munich opens a "decisive" stretch Saturday, according to coach Louis van Gaal, although the trip to Eintracht is likely to be the easiest match over the next three weeks.
Bayern follows the trip to Eintracht with a match against current second-place Bundesliga side Schalke in the Pokal Cup semifinals Wednesday.
Stuttgart, Schalke, and Bayer Leverkusen follow in league games, on top of two Champions League quarterfinal matches against Manchester United, all in an 18- day span.
"March and April are the decisive months," Van Gaal said on Bayern's website.
Bayern is coming off what Van Gaal described as a "slightly lucky win" against Freiburg last weekend, but the 2-1 victory over the struggling German side was just days after Munich sealed its spot in the Champions League quarters.
Arjen Robben rescued Bayern against Freiburg with a pair of second-half goals, and sent his side back to the top of the league after Schalke was on top for a day.
Van Gaal still has problems with Mario Gomez and Martin Demichelis out against Eintracht, and Franck Ribery a question mark.
However, Bastian Schweinsteiger returns from a one-match suspension, and Hamit Altintop is recovered from the flu.
"We have more fit players again," Robben said.
Bayern has lost just once in its last 19 matches, a 3-2 loss at Fiorentina in the second leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League, but the result was enough send it through on away goals with the aggregate level at 4.
With Schalke just two points behind, Van Gaal can't afford to lose any points this week with the tough stretch ahead. A win in Frankfurt could be even more important with Schalke at fifth-place Hamburg on Sunday, and third-place Bayer at fourth-place Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
If Schalke and Leverkusen fall, Bayern could pull five and six points clear of its top two challengers.
Eintracht is without a number of players, including Ioannis Amanatidis, Zlatan Bajramovic,Nikos Liberopoulos, and Aleksandar Vasoski through injury, and Maik Franz, Patrick Ochs, and Selim Teber through suspension.
Eintracht coach Michael Skibbe knows the absences hurt his clubs chances, but the 10th-place side has no other options.
"It's obvious who are the favorites and who are the underdogs. But we mustn't abandon our passion for playing football," Skibbe said on Bayern's website.
On Friday, Koln tied Monchengladbach 1-1 to open the weekend matches.
Also Saturday, Stuttgart hosts Hannover, Werder Bremen hosts Bochum, Nurnberg hosts Hoffenheim, and Freiburg hosts Mainz Also Sunday, Wolfsburg hosts Hertha Berlin.

The most popular sports to bet on are NFL and college football along with NBA and NCAA basketball. There are multiple betting opportunities within those sports, beginning with the basic wager on a game’s outcome (also called betting the side). College Football Point spreads are used in both football and basketball in an attempt to even the attractiveness of each team in a match-up. ( See our article detailing how and why point spreads are made)
But you could also simply bet on the money line, or straight-up winner of the game. Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on the underdog to balance the action on both sides. While money line gambling is an attractive option for football and basketball bettors who only care about picking a winner, it is the primary option for those bettors who enjoy wagering on MLB baseball and individual sports like boxing, tennis, golf and racing events such as NASCAR. ( More details on playing the Money Line)
Another bet across all major team sports including football, basketball, baseball, and hockey involves wagering on the amount of scoring in a game, called an Over/Under total. For example, the Over/Under total on Super Bowl XXXIX was 48, which means a bettor could wager whether there would be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined in the game.
The final score of Super Bowl XXXIX was 24-21; the scoring of both teams added up to 45, which means the game went Under . So Under bettors won, and Over bettors lost.
Sports gambling doesn’t end there. Betting sides and totals are the most common wagers available everywhere, but many sportsbooks also offer future bets on big upcoming events like who will win next year’s Super Bowl and what movie will win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The main advantage of futures is that you can get appealing odds by betting far in advance. For example, with NFL futures you often can get much higher odds on a team by betting before the season even starts. A NFL future bet on a team to win the Super Bowl odds might be 20/1 in the preseason; but by midseason, their odds might decrease to 10/1 if they turn out to be legitimate championship contenders.
Involves one individual wager, whether it be on your team to cover the point spread, to win the game straight-up on the money line, or to go over/under the total.
